About Queensland Water Advisory
Queensland Water Advisory provides independent guidance on water behaviour in and around buildings, with a focus on Queensland conditions.
The advisory exists to help project teams better understand how water is likely to behave at critical interfaces — before construction decisions are locked in and before predictable issues occur on site.
Advisory focus
Guidance is centred on design-stage coordination and understanding water behaviour across common risk areas, including:
External surface water at thresholds, patios, balconies, driveways, and pedestrian areas
Zero-threshold and low-threshold doorway design
Finished floor levels, external surface levels, and their relationship to water movement
Wind-driven rain and short-duration storm events typical of Queensland conditions
Internal wet area water behaviour, including bathrooms and hobless showers
Interfaces between internal and external spaces where water risk is often misunderstood
The emphasis is on how water behaves, rather than on individual products or trade scopes.
What this advisory does not provide
Queensland Water Advisory does not:
supply or install products
carry out plumbing, waterproofing, or building works
provide emergency or reactive repair advice
act as a certifier, regulator, or approval authority
The role is advisory only and is intended to support planning, design, and coordination discussions.
How guidance is framed
Advice is based on experience working alongside builders, designers, and suppliers across residential and commercial projects in Queensland.
The approach is:
observational rather than prescriptive
focused on identifying risk early
grounded in real-world site behaviour
intended to support better decisions, not replace project responsibility
No product recommendations are made on this site.
